Let there be “Hot Water”!
Here a couple summers ago, as part of a family agreement, I purchased a Shower screen for campsite privacy while taking a shower. I thought the arrangements were more than adequate. It even had an overhead canvas bag that holds 5-gallons of water for sudsing/rinsing.
My ladies (wife and 2-daughters) have been more than gracious in accepting the inconvenience of cold water only. Guess it was ok when it was 70+ degrees outside. However, this year during our annual trip to the Colorado Rockies, there were days when it didn’t get above 50 degrees; being warm/fair weather women, it definitely discouraged cold water dousing.
I assured the ladies that next year, before our pilgrimage, we would have hot water. Of course that was before I had a chance to look at the price of a Portable Hot Water Unit. However, the Boss has made up her mind; so, we will have “Hot Water” – Yea!
Life’s Little Compromises!
Having been raised in the outdoors, I thrive on fresh air, clear blue sky, a faint fragrance of pine and the unmistakable smell of eggs, bacon, and fresh coffee cooking/brewing over an open camp-fire. I’m truly satisfied with the basic camp site, and as-long-as I have some type of shelter, food (lots of it), and bedding – I’m good (happy as a bear cub with a honey pod).
However, this type of camping is not shared by my family. My wife expects the luxuries of a 3-5 star motel, and the girls must have television and e-mail access. So with these criteria, you can imagine that we don’t get too far from a paved road.
This next summer, we’re planning a trip to the mountains of Colorado; at present, I’m negotiating camp-site configuration and amenities. They have conditionally agreed to tents, sleeping bags, cots, and a wire-less lap-top computer. The only additional cost this year is a portable shower that wasn’t negotiable, but – AIN’T LIFE AMAZING!
