I’ve been happily retired for 10 years now. Many of my retired friends fritter away their free time with frivolous abandon – they sit at home watching TV and rarely get out to enjoy what the world has to offer. I’m proud to be bucking that trend by traveling around to parts of the country I’ve never seen before. Retirement has afforded me the opportunity to do more camping than I did when I was young.
Although the ravages of age haven’t caught up to my youthful spirit, I do have to make a few physical concessions. When my back began to act up last spring I started browsing for Intex air beds to cushion my spine. These days, it only takes moments to pack up the air bed and head on down the road to my next outdoor adventure.

There’s nothing worse than having to fall asleep on a rock, bump, or tree root, but all too often, this is what happens on camping trips. Having to sleep in a tent can be uncomfortable and also restless, but with cots and airbeds, tent camping can be much better. Cots have been used for several hundred years, and are quite comfortable for outdoor sleeping.
The tent cot functions much like a hammock, but is fabric connected between four bars rather than two. Airbeds are also great for camping because they are lightweight and can be used to sleep two to four people. Airbeds tend to work better for couples and families because they are available in a wide range of sizes. You will need an air pump to fill most airbeds however, as manual filling can take hours and isn’t all that effective.
When sleeping at night, it’s also important to ensure that you aren’t falling asleep on a slope. You don’t want the blood rushing to your head as this can cause discomfort and even damage, if you have to sleep on a slope, make sure your head is at the top rather than the bottom.

Thousands of American kids attend summer camps each year. Summer camps are a great way for kids to meet new friends, learn activities and gain independence from Mom and Dad. Parents also get the benefit of valuable together time and a chance to attack household projects without the kids underfoot. But any kid who’s been to camp has something to say about the sleeping situation.
Camping cotsconsist of pieces of fabric stretched over a steel or aluminum frame and are often featured in summer camps. These cots haven’t always been designed to ensure the comfort of dozing campers. In fact, they are many times the reason that campers don’t sleep. Fortunately, modern cot designers have considered comfort as well. It is now possible to find cots that are well built and sturdy. Some cots are even over-sized and padded for comfort.

You have decided to take the family camping. The kids and wife are looking forward to getting out and being able to see the sky, smell nature, and relax from the city’s hectic routine.
The tents, bags, food, and other supplies have been loaded; however, the family has indicated that they do not want to sleep on the ground, pad, or inflatable mattress but rather on cots. Most of us guys prefer a pad on the ground but would readily oblige this minor compromise to insure family content.
Today’s camping cots or portable beds provide the comfort that some folk need when considering a camping adventure. These sleeping aids will also give them the elevation necessary to insure safety from unidentified, unexpected, creepy/crawly creatures that might be wandering around the sleeping area.

Self-reliance has always been a point of pride in my family. Our vacations usually revolve around some sort of camping trip, and I like to be sure that we’re within easy access of a clear-running trout stream.
November is the best time of all because I take my older children out to hunting camp in an attempt to bring down an elusive trophy buck. This will be the first year that my youngest daughter, Samantha, comes to camp with us.
I’ve taken all the necessary precautions to make sure that she enjoys the visit and stays out of harm’s way. We bought new gun safes to keep firearms out of her reach and have decided to keep drinking at camp to a minimum. I bought a few kids sleeping bags online and packed up a few of her favorite snacks along with the usual pickled bologna, crackers, sardines and other hunting essentials.

As I’ve mentioned before, rifle season is just around the corner. In less than a month’s time, I’ll be back at hunting camp, enjoying the simple pleasures of nature and camaraderie.
It’s not just the thrill of the hunt that I look forward to, however. When I head out to camp with my closest friends, I play things up to the hilt. After a long day in the woods, we wind down with some cold beverages and a steady diet of pickled bologna, cheese and crackers.
Our camp really brings a whole new meaning to the term “rustic,” as we go without electricity or running water for an entire extended weekend. There are so many of us crammed into a single large bedroom that it became necessary to install bunk beds. I like to have my space, so I always string up a camping hammock in the living room area. It works out better anyway because I have easy access to the kitchen the next morning when it’s time to make breakfast.

Over the decades, I’ve learned to cherish every opportunity I get to go camping. Back in college, it was a given that I could get away from the city with a group of friends to spend our abundant free time in the wilderness.
These days, careers and family commitments take priority over outdoor adventures. Despite the scheduling conflicts, I make an effort to go camping at least a few times each year.
Much to my chagrin, I found out that age is beginning to catch up to me. Whereas I used to sleep in a mummy bag or outside in a hammock, my back just can’t withstand that sort of abuse anymore. Luckily I make sure that my wife and I pack our camping air beds. After a night spent on a comfortable sleep pad, I feel refreshed and energized enough to go for a long hike or take an early morning dip in the river.

Before selecting sleeping a sleeping bag for your next outdoor adventure, be sure to factor in your destination. A standard rectangular sleeping bag will suffice for most camping trips at this time of year. However, if you’re planning to spend a few days in the mountains you’ll need some extra insulation.
